Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of Reptile Grove at https://reptilegrove.com (the “Site”). They were last updated on October 6, 2026. Please read them together with the Privacy Policy and the Disclosure. Reptile Grove is an informational publication about keeping pet reptiles, and keeping reptiles carries real risks for animals and people. These Terms are written to be clear about what the Site is, what it is not, and where responsibility lies.

Acceptance of These Terms and Related Policies

By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms to the extent the law allows that agreement to be formed by use of a website. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the Site. The Site is intended for adults and for general audiences in the United States, and it is not directed at children under 13. If you are under 18, please use the Site only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. Three documents work together on this Site. These Terms set the rules for using the Site. The Privacy Policy explains how information is handled. The Disclosure explains commercial relationships, research methods, the editorial persona and the use of illustrative images. If there is a conflict between these Terms and another page on the Site about your use of the Site, these Terms control, except where the Privacy Policy or Disclosure more specifically describes our information practices or commercial relationships. Nothing in these Terms is meant to limit any right you have under law that cannot be waived.

What Reptile Grove Is and Its Availability

Reptile Grove is a standalone informational blog. It publishes articles and guides about reptile husbandry, including topics such as enclosures, temperature gradients, lighting, humidity, diet, feeder insects and general health awareness. The Site is a static website. It has no user accounts, no comments, no newsletter and no public user-submission features, and it does not sell products or services. Our articles are prepared by reading and summarizing published veterinary, biological and keeper literature and manufacturer information. We do not conduct hands-on product testing, and we do not make first-hand animal-care claims. The Site is provided on an as-available basis. We may change, suspend, reorganize or remove any article, page, feature or the entire Site at any time and without notice. We do not promise that the Site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or free of errors, and we are not obliged to keep any content online or to update it. The Site depends on third-party infrastructure for hosting, domain management, secure delivery, spam protection and email routing, and those services can fail or change outside our control.

Permitted Use and Prohibited Conduct

You may read the Site and use its content for your own personal, non-commercial education, subject to these Terms. When you use the Site, you agree not to do any of the following:

  • Use the Site in a way that violates any applicable law or regulation, including laws about wildlife, animal welfare, species ownership, shipping, breeding or sale.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its hosting accounts, its source repository, its domain or its email, or probe, scan or test their security without our written permission.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Site or the networks and services that deliver it, including by sending excessive automated requests, distributing malware or attempting denial-of-service attacks.
  • Scrape, copy or harvest the Site at a volume or in a manner that burdens it, or evade technical measures that protect it, including the spam-protection check on the contact form.
  • Misrepresent the Site, its content or its editorial persona, for example by presenting our articles as veterinary advice, as a professional recommendation or as your own work.
  • Use the Site’s content to train or promote services that give veterinary, medical or legal advice as though it came from a qualified professional.
  • Send us unlawful, harassing, threatening or deceptive messages, or messages that include malicious files or links.
  • Submit automated, bulk or spam messages through the contact form or to the Site’s email address.

We may investigate suspected misuse and may take any action described in the section on restricting or ending access below.

Intellectual Property, Permitted Reuse and Infringement Inquiries

The text, design, layout, original compilations and other original materials on the Site are owned by the Site’s owners or their content creators or licensors and are protected by copyright and other applicable laws. The Reptile Grove name and logo, to the extent they function as trademarks, may not be used in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation without permission. The Site may refer to third-party names, products, studies and publications, which belong to their respective owners and are mentioned only for identification and discussion. Except as stated here, no license is granted to you by implication, estoppel or otherwise. You may quote short excerpts of our articles for commentary, education or criticism, provided that you give clear attribution to Reptile Grove and include a link to the original page. Please do not republish full articles, substantial portions of articles, images or the Site’s design without prior written permission. If you want to use our material beyond a short quotation, email hello@reptilegrove.com, keeping in mind the email availability note at the end of these Terms. If you believe that content on the Site infringes your copyright or other rights, please email us with your contact details, a description of the material and where it appears, the basis for your claim and a statement that you are authorized to make it. We do not currently identify a registered designated copyright agent on this Site, so email is the only route we publish for these inquiries. We may remove or change material while we look into a claim, and we may decline to act on notices that are incomplete or that appear to be unfounded or abusive. The Site’s images include illustrations, including the portrait of the editorial persona, and the Disclosure explains what they do and do not represent.

No User Submissions or Public Content Features

The Site does not currently offer comments, forums, reviews, accounts, a newsletter or any other public feature for posting or publishing user content. The only ways to send us a message are the contact form and email. Because readers cannot publish anything on the Site, we do not host or moderate reader content. If you send us a question, a correction, a source or a topic suggestion, you are not creating a public post. You keep ownership of what you send, and you give us permission to read it, keep it, reply to it and use the factual information, citations and ideas in it to improve the Site, without obligation to credit or pay you. We will not publish your name or message as a testimonial or quotation without asking you first. Sending a message does not create a confidential, professional or advisory relationship, and we cannot promise to keep a message private beyond what the Privacy Policy describes. Please do not send material that you do not have the right to share, and please avoid sensitive personal information, as explained in the Privacy Policy. If we add public submission features in the future, we will update these Terms and the Privacy Policy before or when those features are turned on.

Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties or conditions of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory. This includes, without limitation, any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, quiet enjoyment and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that any information on the Site is current, complete or suitable for your particular animal, species, equipment, household or location. Husbandry knowledge, product designs and safety standards change, and published sources sometimes disagree. We do not warrant that following any article will produce any health, breeding, behavioral or financial outcome for any animal or person. We do not warrant that the contact form or email address will receive, deliver or answer any message. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be disclaimed, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case, the disclaimers apply to the greatest extent the law permits, and any warranty that cannot lawfully be disclaimed is limited in duration to the minimum period the law allows. Nothing in these Terms excludes any warranty, right or remedy that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

No Professional Advice and Reptile-Keeping Risks

The Site provides general educational information. It is not veterinary, medical, legal, electrical, fire-safety or other professional advice, and it does not diagnose or prescribe. The Site does not give drug doses. Nothing on the Site creates a veterinarian-client, advisor-client or any other professional relationship. The editorial persona, Maren Calloway, is fictional, holds no veterinary or scientific credentials, does not keep animals and does not test products. When an article discusses symptoms, it is describing what published sources say and is not assessing your animal. The qualified source of help for a sick, injured or struggling reptile is a reptile or exotics veterinarian. If an animal appears seriously ill, injured, unresponsive or in distress, contact a qualified veterinarian right away rather than relying on the Site. Reptile keeping involves risks, and you accept responsibility for them. The main risks include the following:

  • Heating and lighting equipment. Heat lamps, ceramic emitters, heat mats, basking bulbs and similar equipment can cause burns to animals and people, start fires, and create electrical hazards, especially with moisture, damaged cords, overloaded circuits, flammable bedding or unattended operation.
  • UVB and other ultraviolet lighting. Ultraviolet lamps can injure the eyes and skin of animals and people if used at the wrong distance, duration or intensity or without appropriate guarding and manufacturer guidance.
  • Zoonotic disease. Reptiles can carry Salmonella and other germs without looking ill. Public health agencies commonly advise careful handwashing and keeping reptiles and their equipment away from food areas. Young children, pregnant people, older adults and anyone with a weakened immune system face higher risk, so please consult a physician or public health guidance for your household.
  • Bites, scratches and strength. Reptiles can bite, scratch, whip and claw. Large snakes, including constricting species, and large lizards and tortoises can injure people even when they seem calm. Never handle large or powerful animals alone or around children without proper training and precautions.
  • Live feeders. Live insects and rodents can bite or injure the animal they are offered to, can carry parasites or disease, and need safe handling, storage and disposal.
  • Legal restrictions. Rules on owning, importing, shipping, breeding, selling and transporting reptiles vary by state, county and city, and can change. Some species require permits or are prohibited. You are responsible for finding and following the rules that apply to you.

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and safety warnings for equipment, use appropriately rated and installed electrical components, and consult a licensed electrician or other qualified professional where wiring or installation is involved. Articles are summaries and cannot account for your enclosure, home, species, animal or local requirements. The Site’s content is not a substitute for the judgment of a qualified veterinarian, physician, electrician or local authority.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Reptile Grove and its owners, operators, editors, authors, writers, contributors, licensors, service providers and their respective affiliates, personnel and agents (together, the “Site Parties”) will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, animals, breeding stock or use, arising out of or related to the Site or these Terms. This applies whether the claim is based on contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, statute or any other theory, and even if a Site Party was advised that such damages were possible. To the same extent, the Site Parties are not liable for injury, illness or death of any person or animal, or for fire, burns, electrical incidents, property damage, bites, infections or legal penalties, that arise from your use of or reliance on the Site, from equipment or products you purchase or use, or from decisions you make about an animal’s care. The Site is free, and you use it and any information on it at your own risk and in your own judgment. These Terms do not set a fixed dollar limit on liability, and we have not agreed to any such limit with you. Some laws do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages or liabilities, including liability for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct or certain personal-injury or consumer claims. For example, California Civil Code section 1668 limits the ability of a party to exempt itself from responsibility for its own fraud, willful injury or violation of law. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. If you live in a place where some of these limits are not permitted, they apply only to the extent the law allows, and you may have additional rights. We do not claim that these limits are immune from challenge, and a court may interpret them differently depending on the facts and the law that applies.

Indemnification

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Site Parties from claims, liabilities, damages, losses and reasonable expenses, including reasonable legal fees, that arise out of or relate to your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms or applicable law, your infringement of another person’s rights, or a claim by a third party that arises from your conduct, including how you keep, handle, transport, breed, sell or care for animals or use equipment. This does not apply to the extent a claim results from a Site Party’s own conduct that cannot lawfully be shifted to you. We may, at our option and expense, take over the defense of a matter you would otherwise indemnify, and you agree to cooperate reasonably. Some jurisdictions restrict or do not recognize indemnity obligations of consumers, and this section applies only to the extent it is permitted where you live.

Third-Party Links, Content and Products

Articles may link to outside sources such as research papers, veterinary organizations, government agencies, manufacturers and retailers. Those sites, and any content, products, services, prices or statements on them, are controlled by others. We do not operate, monitor, endorse or control them, and we are not responsible for their accuracy, safety, legality, availability, security or privacy practices. A link does not mean that we endorse everything on the linked site or that we have tested, inspected or verified anything it offers. Product and equipment information on the Site comes from published sources and manufacturers and may be outdated, incomplete or incorrect. Any purchase you make from a third party is a transaction between you and that seller, and the seller is responsible for the product, its pricing, shipping, returns and warranty. Please review the terms and privacy policies of any site you visit, and please follow manufacturer instructions for any equipment. Links may break or lead to different content over time, and we may remove or change links at any time.

Commercial Relationships

At the time of these Terms, Reptile Grove has no advertising, no affiliate programs, no sponsored content, no paid placement arrangements and no compensation or free products from companies. We have not confirmed enrollment in any retailer affiliate program, and the Site contains no affiliate links. The Disclosure explains this in more detail and will be updated before or when any of this changes. If we later add affiliate links, advertising, sponsorships or other material connections, we intend to label them clearly on affected content as well as on the Disclosure page. Please note that the commercial status described here applies only to Reptile Grove and not to the third-party websites we link to.

Privacy

Your use of the Site is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes what information is and is not collected, how messages you send us are handled, the spam-protection check on the contact form, and the limited local storage used for the light and dark theme setting. The Privacy Policy does not form a contract that expands our liability beyond what these Terms and the law provide, and it describes our practices based on how the Site is configured today. Please do not send sensitive personal information when you contact us.

Restricting or Ending Access

We may, at our discretion and without notice or liability, restrict, suspend or end your access to the Site or any part of it if we reasonably believe that you have violated these Terms, are interfering with the Site or its security, are abusing our contact channel, or are using the Site unlawfully. Because the Site has no accounts, this may take the form of technical measures such as blocking network addresses or requests, or declining to respond to messages. We may also stop operating the Site, or any part of it, for any reason. The sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive, including those on intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification and mandatory protections, will continue to apply after your access ends.

Governing Law, Forum and Disputes

The owners of the Site have not supplied a choice of governing law, court or forum, so these Terms do not name one. These Terms also do not require arbitration, do not set a class-action waiver and do not set a mandatory dispute-resolution procedure. We do not purport to waive any rule of law, court or forum that mandatorily applies to you, and the law that applies to a dispute will be determined under the rules that normally apply. If you have a concern about the Site, you are welcome to email hello@reptilegrove.com first so that we can try to understand and address it informally. Contacting us first is a courtesy and not a condition of any right you have, and we cannot promise that a message will be delivered or answered, as explained at the end of these Terms. If the owners later choose a governing law or dispute procedure, we will update these Terms and the date at the top of this page.

Severability

If a court or other authority of competent jurisdiction finds any provision of these Terms invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions will continue in full effect. If a provision cannot be modified, it will be treated as severed from these Terms without affecting the rest.

No Waiver

Our failure or delay in exercising or enforcing any right or provision of these Terms is not a waiver of that right or provision. A waiver is effective only if it is in writing and communicated by us, and a waiver on one occasion is not a waiver on any other occasion.

Entire Agreement and Mandatory Protections

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Disclosure, are the entire agreement between you and Reptile Grove about your use of the Site and replace earlier versions and understandings on that subject. Nothing in these Terms affects any non-excludable statutory or consumer right that applies to you where you live. These Terms do not create any partnership, employment, agency, fiduciary or professional relationship between you and any Site Party. The Site Parties that are not the operator of the Site, such as contributors, authors and service providers, are intended beneficiaries of the disclaimers and limitations in these Terms and may rely on them. Where a protection for you cannot be waived or limited by contract, it continues to apply, and the rest of these Terms apply alongside it to the fullest extent the law permits.

Assignment and Transfer

You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written consent, and any attempted assignment in violation of this section is void. We may assign or transfer these Terms and the Site, in whole or in part, to another person or entity, for example if the Site is sold, handed over to a new owner or reorganized, and we may use service providers to operate it. If that occurs, we will update the Site’s policies as appropriate. These Terms bind and benefit the parties and their permitted successors and assigns.

Events Beyond Our Reasonable Control

We are not liable for any failure or delay in operating the Site or performing under these Terms that results from events beyond our reasonable control. These include outages or failures of internet, hosting, domain, security, email or electricity services, cyberattacks, government actions, changes in law, natural disasters, fires, epidemics, labor disputes, war, civil unrest and failures of third-party providers. Because the Site is a free informational publication, it may be unavailable for periods without notice.

Updates to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time as the Site, its features or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last updated, and the current version is the one posted here. Because the Site has no accounts or subscriber list, we do not send individual notices of changes, and we post updates on this page instead. If a change is material, we will try to make it easy to notice, and where the law requires a specific form of notice we will follow that requirement. Your continued use of the Site after an update means that you accept the revised Terms to the extent the law permits. If you do not accept a revision, please stop using the Site.

Contact and Current Availability

You can contact us through the contact form on the Contact page, which is enabled and protected by a Cloudflare Turnstile spam-protection check, or by email at hello@reptilegrove.com. The mail setup for this address was completed through Cloudflare, and the inbox, mail routing and forwarding were reported ready at setup. However, end-to-end delivery on the live site has not been tested yet, so we cannot confirm that a message sent through the form or by email will be delivered or read. We do not promise any response time and we may not be able to respond to every message. Please do not rely on the form or email for urgent matters, and for an animal emergency or health concern contact a qualified reptile or exotics veterinarian immediately. The Site does not currently publish a postal address or the name of a legal entity, and we will update this section if that changes. We will also update this section when live delivery has been tested.

Reptile Grove

Reptile Grove publishes research-based husbandry information for US reptile keepers. It is educational only and never replaces care from a qualified reptile or exotics veterinarian.
